The Union of Myanmar is the largest country by geographical area in mainland Southeast Asia. The total land area is around 676,577 square km. The country is bordered by the People's Republic of China on the northeast, Laos on the east, Thailand on the southeast, Bangladesh on the west, and India on the northwest, with the Bay of Bengal to the southwest. Myanmar’s total population is about 56 million.

It is rich in forest products and hardwood, vast fertile land and various kinds of mineral deposits and precious stone mines, oil and gas deposits. As such, their main industries are the agricultural processing; wood and wood products; copper, tin, tungsten, iron; cement, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, fertilizer, natural gas, garments, jade and gems.
