The Kingdom of Thailand is bordered to the north by Laos and Myanmar; to its east, Laos and Cambodia, to its south, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia; and to its Thailandwest, the Andaman Sea and Burma. Its capital and largest city is Bangkok.

In 2007, manufacturing industry contributed 43.9% of GDP. Thailand is becoming a center of automobile manufacturing for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) market. Two automakers active in Thailand are Toyota and Ford. The expansion of the automotive industry has led to a boom in domestic steel production.

Thailand is also the world’s leading exporter of rice and a major exporter of shrimp. Thailand exports about 6.5 million tons of milled rice annually. In 2007 agriculture, forestry and fishing contributed around 11.4% percent to GDP.

Other than agricultural, Thailand also depends highly on mining. Thailand’s major minerals include fluorite, gypsum, lead, lignite, natural gas, tantalum, tin and tungsten. As of 2008, the main mineral export was gypsum. Thailand is the world’s second largest exporter of gypsum after Canada and it is the world's second-largest tungsten producer. Thailand is a net importer of oil and natural gas, but the government is promoting the use of ethanol to reduce imports of petroleum and the gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether. Thailand is the net importer of tin currently.

Services sector, which ranges from tourism to banking and finance, contributed around 44.7% of GDP and employed 37% of the workforce. The tourism industry continues contributing to the economic and social development of the kingdom. Tourism policy in Thailand supports promotion from ASEAN countries as well.
